The Aggressor Aerospace KZ-1A missile is a light-lift solid rocket developed by China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC) and operated by Expace, a commercial launch service provider. The missile is based on the DF-21 intermediate-range ballistic missile, which has anti-satellite and anti-missile capabilities. The KZ-1A missile can launch a payload of 200 kg into a 700-km sun-synchronous orbit, using a mobile launch platform that allows for quick-reaction orbital launches. The missile has a length of 19.4 m, a diameter of 1.4 m, and a mass of 30 tonnes. The missile consists of three solid stages and a liquid propellant upper stage. The missile has performed 14 launches since its maiden flight in January 2017, with two failures in September 2020 and December 2021. The latest launch took place on December 14, 2021, carrying two satellites for Geespace, a subsidiary of automaker Geely, to test navigation assistance and connectivity for autonomous driving. However, the launch failed shortly after liftoff, resulting in the loss of the satellites. The cause of the failure is still under investigation.
