Proposition 65
Under Proposition 65, businesses are required to provide warnings to Californians about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. It allows Californians to make more informed decisions about their exposure to these materials.
Wood dust and Crystalline Silica, commonly encountered in model rocketry, are listed on the Proposition 65 list because they can cause cancer. If you often work with wood or are a hobbyist, you may be at risk of inhalation of wood dust. Exposure to significant amounts on a recurring basis may cause cancers of the nose, throat or sinuses. Avoid exposure and inhalation by taking proper precautions or wearing a dust mask. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov/wood. When you purchase rocket motor engines, they contain Crystalline Silica, and exposure to this chemical may cause cancer. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
