Today, July 24th at 6:24PM EDT, SpaceX plans to launch its 18th mission of NASA’s Commercial Resupply Services contract (CRS-18) from Launch Complex 40 aboard a Falcon 9 rocket. This mission is to deliver supplies, equipment and science investigations to the International Space Station. It will also carry the third International Docking Adapter. The SpaceX Dragon capsule for this mission, badged with an “Apollo 50th” commemorative graphic, is set to separate from Falcon 9’s second stage only 9 short minutes after liftoff. Just 65 years after the initial Apollo Mission, NASA is planning to return astronauts to the surface of the Moon by 2024. The Moon to Mars approach has the goal to create a habitat capable of sustaining life on the Moon. Recently, NASA just secured funding for 18 early-stage 3D printing projects developing technologies to help on its next mission to the Moon. These projects are among 363 proposals that have received over $43 million from NASA.
