An easy source for the BT-19 body tubes.
I enjoy this kit very much. To get the BT-19 tubes I bought an Estes Saturn 1B kit. To shorten them I put a thin wrap of masking tape and used the yellow Estes BT-20 tube cutting guide. I also used the weight clay from the Estes Kit and a few of the decals. I obtained an additional capsule from Boyce to have one for display and one for flight. Contact Boyce for this capsule, noting that it is not for the same tube diameter as the one they list for the Estes Saturn 1B. On the flight capsule I filled the structure between the escape rocket and the capsule with a fairly thick clear epoxy. This makes it quite sturdy and looks good in launch photographs. I use the second one for display and looks good close up. I also added the launch lugs from the Estes kit. I prefer using the 5mm launch rod with this rocket and still can use the regular red Estes porta-pad. I am still testing different parachute combinations including the Estes brand parachutes. Thank you, Bob.
Very high quality!
I am amazed at the level of detail and high quality of this kit. Most of the work is done by the outstanding 3d printing. There are no cumbersome body wraps and the fin can is completely done ahead of time..same for the escape rocket already printed with the command module..All the components fit perfectly right out of the box. The tubes were easily found from e rockets..and delivered in record time as well at a very reasonable cost…I can not think of a reason in the world to order the Estes offering when this one is far ahead of it in so many ways. Some may be surprised by its smaller size over the Saturn V..but that is accurate in 1/100 scale..and perfect to display side by side..I have my completed Apollo 11 to display it beside, and expect this one will be the finer of the two..just taking time to get it right..There were also some readily available decals on eBay just in case I needed back ups for markings…for the S1b…and not sure I will need them..I was just very pleased as usual from Boyce Aerospace..great coms and response when a had a question..Thank You Alex!
Saturn 1B
Very detailed parts, easy to assemble.. it is actually 1/100th scale as advertised, so it is a bit small. Hopefully Boyce will create one for static display 1/72 scale or larger….the 1/100th scale is worth the price….
Started a 1/100 th scale space program.
Have not built this model yet, started with Mercury Redstone and progressing through the series. When I am finished will have all the 1/100 th scale series including the Estes 1/100 Saturn V which I already had. Only thing missing is a 1/100 Gemini with Titan. All 3D parts are excellent quality and detail. I have a 3D printer but cannot achieve this level of detail and surface texture. Boyce Aerospace products are my new goto for scale rocket products.
superior kit
I have both a Centuri Saturn IB model and an Estes Saturn IB, both are nice models but require a lot of work to get an acceptable model. The Boyce Saturn IB is more accurate, easier to build and presents you with a really superior model. I am slowing buying the entire Boyce Saturn I family. Great kits.
