The Boyce Aerospace Hobbies 1/46th Scale Gemini Titan Builders Kit recreates America's third manned space system. The Gemini Titan mated the two astronaut Gemini capsule with the larger Titan two stage booster. The Gemini Titan launch system was instrumental in America's race to a moon landing as we used it to learn orbital rendezvous, docking, space walking and the effects of long term space flight on humans. Our Gemini Titan model showcases incredibly detailed parts such as the cluster motor mount with rear tank bulkhead, engine truss work, turbo-pump detail and screw on engine bell motor retainers. This Builders Kit also includes a detailed interstage with visible first state upper tank dome. There is a bayonet catch between the first and second stage and the second stage boasts display model details. The Boyce Aerospace Gemini Titan Builders Kit is comprised of 35 high-quality 3D-printed parts and 4 clip on clear laser cut fins for flight. Your Builders kit requires additional parts, so be sure to check your included instructions for a full list. Give your model the finishing touch with impressive 3-page full body wrap vinyl decals.
The detail on the kit is amazing. Quality of materials is first rate and well worth the price. Thanks for the excellent kit.
GREAT kit, well recommended!
This model was a blast to build. It was my first foray into "builder kit" style models, so I was a little nervous about purchasing it, but that fear quickly dissolved when I received the model parts and saw how well they were printed and how clear and precise the instructions were. The parts you get are all 3d printed in fdm, making them extremely sturdy. I have a little experience with 3d printing and I've seen the good, bad, and **** when it comes to filament printing and all I can say is....these people have their printer dialed in to some outstanding tolerances. I almost couldn't tell they were FDM printed, the detail is so fine. I was extremely impressed. The instruction manual is written for idiots. Which is great, because I am the idiot here! Seriously, it's extremely well thought-out and very easy to follow. Even folks such as myself who might be getting back into this hobby after a long break, and might not have much rocket-making experience under their belt, will find this a fun and only mildly challenging kit. When it comes time to do the wraps, I recommend a couple things. First, make sure your BT-80 tubes were cut EXACTLY the size the instructions list. If they're not, you will find yourself with some trimming to do on the wraps. If you look at my model below, you'll see that the "UNITED STATES" vertical text has the U cut off a little bit. This is because I was off by 1.5mm on my tube cutting and didn't realize it until after I started applying the wrap. If I'd known beforehand, I would have cut the wrap from the bottom so it didn't affect the text. Second, take some time and hit up youtube to look for videos on how to apply vinyl wraps to rockets. It's better to have an idea what you're up against versus going in blind for these. I'd say that the wrap application was the most challenging part of the build, but when all was said and done, I was thrilled to have this model back in the display!
I haven't built it out yet, but of course I opened it immediately to inspect the parts and go through the destruction manual. First of all, let's talk about 3d prints. I have some experience with 3d printing in my background with both resin and FDM printers, and I have to tell you: these are some of the cleanest looking FDM prints I've seen in a very long time. Whoever is printing these parts has their printers dialed in pretty much perfect. There will be some minimal sanding involved to loosen up a few joints, but as for smoothing the prints to remove layer lines (a common thing with FDM printed parts) there is very little work a person will need to do in order to achieve a great looking finish for this kit. Instructions are equally good. Very easy to understand, step-by-step, and pretty much straightforward. So, overall, how impressed was I with this model? Impressed enough to go ahead and purchase their Saturn 1 kit without bothering to look for reviews. I know what I'm getting now that I've seen this Gemini and I'm going to be buying from Boyce a few times more now! Highly recommended for those with moderate model-building skills. Beginners may have some issues, but nothing even at the beginner level that I think would cause any flight-stopping problems.
Gemini Titan build
Really a fun but challenging at times build. The decal wrap was going pretty good until the last one at the top when I had to remove and reposition and it curled back on itself and ruined some of the print. I most definitely recommend this kit . Boyce is the only place I found the Gemini kit build for flight. I honestly wanted it for a display model but built for flight ready.
So far I have only unpacked the kits, but all look great!
