Happy 90th Birthday, Vern!

Posted by Alexander Boyce on

On Saturday, January 4th, 2020, renowned rocket designer and namesake of Estes Industries, Vern Estes celebrated his 90th birthday. Estes rockets asked the rocketry community to join the celebration by sharing memories, photos and comments honoring Vern and his contributions to the industry.

In 1961, Vern designed the first rocket kit for sale, the Astron Scout. However, before the Scout ever took flight its prototype was created – the Orange Bullet. The Orange Bullet never took flight, but now, sixty years later, Estes plans to launch this as the first rocket in their new Designer Signature Series. In March 2020, this new series is set to re-introduce lesser known classics and some never-before-seen designs by pioneers of the model rocket industry.

As a thank you during Vern’s Birthday Celebration, Estes plans to give away a signed Orange Bullet to the submitter of the most liked photo.  Did you post your favorite memory?
